Jamie Anderson – Biography

 

Jamie Anderson is Professor of Strategic Management at TiasNimbas Business School, University of Tilburg in the Netherlands. He also holds visiting positions at the Centre for Management Development at London Business and the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. Jamie is recognised as one of Europe’s leading researchers on the telecommunication industry in both developed and developing markets, and over the past decade has directed and/or lectured on executive education programmes for clients such as Alcatel-Lucent, BT, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Hutchison Essar (now Vodafone India), Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Telenor, Telekom Italia, Vodafone UK, and Zain (formerly MTC-Celtel).

 

Jamie’s current research interests focus on business strategy in telecommunications markets, industry convergence and strategies to serve low-income consumers in developing markets. His article titled ‘Strategic Innovation at the base of the Pyramid’ was published in MIT Sloan Management Review in Winter 2007 and has been on the MIT Sloan best-seller reprint list since publication. A 2006 case study on Smart Telecommunications in the Philippines was given first prize by the European Federation for Management Development for the international case writing category ‘Managerial Issues in Transitory Economies’ in the 2007 efmd case writing awards. His most recent article ‘Serving the Poor – Drivers of Business Model Innovation in Mobile’ was published in Info Journal in February 2008.

 

Jamie’s articles have appeared in publications such as MIT Sloan Management Review, International Journal of Emerging Markets, Business Strategy Review, European Journal of Innovation Management, International Journal of Customer Relationship Management, International Journal of Innovation & Technology Management and the Financial Times Handbook of Management. He has written case studies on telecommunications companies such as Bharti Airtel, Celtel (Nigeria and Zambia), Deutsche Telekom, Hutchison Essar, Hutchison 3 UK, Optimus (Portugal), Smart (Philippines), Telmore (Denmark), Vodafone, and Virgin Mobile UK.

 

Jamie writes a frequent strategy and innovation column for Global Telecoms Business Magazine, and has also been a columnist for The Times of London. He has appeared as a business commentator on the BBC, CNN and CNBC.

 

In addition to his teaching and research activities Jamie is Associate Partner with Globalpraxis, an international strategy consulting firm that specializes in route to market strategies in emerging markets. He advises the firm’s telecommunications practice, and has been involved with strategy and route to market projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
